Vinton Garden Club News: Members bring items for local children

The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs ,Inc., District II and Central Region met at 12:00 pm at the Windsor Manor.  Seven members, and Michelle daughter ate a delicious lunch prepared by the cooks. President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 12:50 after the lunch.  Members recited the conservation pledge.  Roll call was each members favorite candy or cookie brought for exchange with recipe.

Atkins Students Performed in Christmas Concerts at Concordia events

Christmas at Concordia weekend Dec. 4-6, 2015, included three events as part of Concordia University, Nebraska's annual Christmas celebration: Christmas at Concordia concerts, a community open house and the Scholarship Parade of Homes. Minnesota State University, Mankato Presents degree to Veldhuizen

Minnesota State University, Mankato will present 1,740 degrees during summer/fall commencement exercises at 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Taylor Center on the Minnesota State Mankato campus. Graduates of the College of Arts & Humanities, College of Business and College of Science, Engineering and Technology will participate in a 9 a.

$100+2: Bethlehem Lutheran Church Celebrates by giving in November 2015

Dave Happel, Head Diving Coach of Vinton's Aquatic Club, George Bauer, Congregation Council Member By Bethlehem Lutheran Church   Teaching children how to swim is an important life skill that brings a lifetime of pleasurable experiences that are good for one's health. The Vinton Aquatic Club has been training young swimmers since 1958.  The coaches for the club begin teaching children as young as 3-4 years of age on how to enjoy this sport individually and competitively.

Benton students Barnard, Jamesson earn Cornell Promise Scholarships

Cornell College offers qualified Iowa high school students entering Cornell in Fall 2016 the Promise Scholarship for Iowans, worth at least $20,000 per student. The scholarship is renewable for four years, bringing the total value to at least $80,000. The following area students were among those admitted to Cornell College for the Fall 2016 semester who earned the Promise Scholarship for Iowans: Morgan Barnard of Keystone (52249) Cale Jamesson of Keystone (52249) In addition to the grant, Iowa students may qualify for up to $5,000 annually from the state's Iowa Tuition Grant to attend an Iowa private college.

Vinton native Jess Rundlett wins All Iowa Trivia Bee

Jess Rundlett is celebrating her victory in the All Iowa Trivia Bee. As the State Historical Society of Iowa's Special Projects and Outreach Coordinator, Jess Rundlett knows a lot about Iowa. And this week, Rundlett, the  daughter of Bill and Deb Rundlett of Vinton, won the All Iowa Trivia Bee on the WHO Radio Van and Bonnie Show.  The event took place Friday, Nov.

Area students receive scholarship awards

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University has awarded more than 1,500 scholarships to students for the 2015-16 academic year. The college and its departments award more than $2 million in scholarships each year. Students interested in applying for scholarships should go to https://www.scholarships.cals.iastate.
